Wednesday, August 5, 2026 at 8:38:15 AM
LAFAYETTE, La. – The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) announces that construction on the Ambassador Turning Lane Improvements Project at Verot School Road, Chemin Metairie Road, and Bonin Road is scheduled to begin Monday, August 17, 2026.

The project includes the construction of new turn lanes along Ambassador Caffery Parkway at its intersections with Verot School Road, Chemin Metairie Road, and Bonin Road. These improvements are designed to enhance traffic operations and improve safety along one of Lafayette's busiest transportation corridors.

The contractor will work weekdays from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. outside of active traffic lanes. Nighttime and weekend lane closures will occur as needed to complete portions of the work safely and efficiently.

Motorists are encouraged to use caution when traveling through the construction zone, be alert for crews and equipment, and expect occasional delays.

Construction is anticipated to be completed in early 2027, weather permitting.

Once complete, the added turn lanes will provide several benefits to motorists, including:
  • Improved traffic flow by reducing congestion at key intersections.
  • Shorter travel times during peak commuting periods.
  • Increased safety by separating turning vehicles from through traffic.
  • Enhanced access for residents, businesses, and emergency responders along the corridor.
DOTD appreciates the public's patience while these improvements are underway and reminds motorists to drive carefully through all work zones.
