Emergency Road Closure on US 84 at Bourbeaux Bayou Near Clarence, Louisiana

The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) advises the public that, beginning Tuesday, August 4, 2026, the box culvert on US 84 at Bourbeaux Bayou, located approximately 1.35 miles east of US 71 near Clarence, Louisiana, in Natchitoches Parish, will be closed to all traffic.
The closure is necessary following the determination that the box culvert has structural deficiencies that make it unsafe for public travel and requires repair or replacement. The roadway will remain closed until further notice.
Permit/Detour Section Eastbound US 84 Traffic: Motorists traveling eastbound on US 84 will detour by turning south onto US 71 at the intersection of US 71/US 84/LA 6. Traffic will continue south on US 71 for approximately 1.75 miles to the intersection with LA 1226. Motorists will then turn left onto LA 1226 and continue east for approximately 4.8 miles to reconnect with US 84.
Westbound US 84 Traffic: Motorists traveling westbound on US 84 will detour by turning west onto LA 1226. Continue on LA 1226 for approximately 4.8 miles to the intersection with US 71. Traffic will then turn right onto US 71 northbound and continue for approximately 1.75 miles until US 71 merges with US 84, where motorists may resume travel on US 84.
Safety Reminder DOTD appreciates your patience and reminds motorists to drive with caution through the construction area and to be alert for work crews and equipment. Motorists are encouraged to use caution when travelibng through the area. Follow posted detour signage and allow additional travel time.
