DOTD Announces I-10 Mississippi River Bridge Inspections Scheduled - East Baton Rouge Parish
Friday, July 31, 2026 at 1:47:03 PM
Baton Rouge, La. - The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) will conduct inspections on the I-10 Mississippi River Bridge (Horace Wilkinson Bridge) in East Baton Rouge Parish beginning Monday August 3, 2026. During this routine inspection, crews will be examining the bridge to ensure it remains structurally sound to carry vehicular traffic.

These inspections occur every two years and are critical, as this bridge carries over 100,000 vehicles daily. Typically, crews will inspect using underbridge inspection trucks and man-lifts, which require multiple lane closures. In order to cause minimal impact on traffic, crews will be utilizing a rope access method to access most parts of the bridge. This method was used on previous inspections of the bridge and proved to be have significantly less impact on traffic, as well as provide a more thorough inspection of the bridge.

Brief rolling closures to drop off inspectors and equipment between the hours of 6:00 am and 3:00 pm will be conducted on the following days:

  • Monday, August 3rd - Sunday August 16th, 2026
  • Alternate right lane closure Schedule:
  • Saturday August 8, 2026 – Westbound Right Lane Closure – 2:00 am to 9:00 am
  • Sunday August 9, 2026 - Eastbound Right Lane Closure – 2:00 am to 9:00 am

All construction activity is weather dependent and may be rescheduled in the event of inclement weather.

Safety Reminder:
DOTD urges drivers to plan accordingly, allowing extra travel time and exercising caution when driving through work zones. The safety of both the traveling public and construction workers is of utmost importance, and motorists should stay alert for work crews and their equipment.
