DOTD announces project to repair a section of US 79 through Minden, Webster Parish

MINDEN, La. – The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development will soon be kicking off a $7.2 million project to repair a 7.6 mile section of US 79 (Homer Road) through Minden in Webster Parish.

Work is scheduled to begin on the evening of Sunday, August 9, 2026, weather permitting.

The project, which stretches on US 79 from Main Street in Minden to the Claiborne Parish line, includes full-depth repairs to address & strengthen the roadway base, concrete patching, milling to remove old asphalt, new asphalt paving, fresh roadway striping, and related work.

Motorists should anticipate intermittent lane closures, particularly during milling and overlay work, to allow construction to progress safely and efficiently.

The section of the project in the City of Minden (from Main Street to LA 531) will be conducted at night to help reduce the inconvenience to the traveling public. Work will be restricted to take place from 6:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. in the city.

The entire project is expected to be complete in late 2026, with progress dependent on weather conditions and other factors that can impact construction timelines.

These projects are critical investments in the state’s infrastructure network, as US 79 is a primary north-south route providing access to numerous cities, communities, and other destinations across Louisiana.

This project was made possible via funding allocated from the Louisiana Transportation Infrastructure Fund (LTIF 2.0).

Safety reminder:
DOTD appreciates your patience and reminds you to please drive with caution through the construction site and be on the lookout for work crews and their equipment. Remember to leave plenty of room between you and the vehicle in front of you.

Area residents should exercise caution when driving, walking, or biking near an active construction zone.
