REVISED - DOTD to begin project to install new striping & rumble strips in several central LA parishes
The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) announces a $1.1 million project to install new pavement striping and rumble strips along numerous routes through the Alexandria (central LA) region.
Work is scheduled to begin on Monday, August 3, 2026 (weather permitting), starting on LA 1 and LA 29 in Avoyelles Parish.
Motorists should expect construction activity on LA 1 from W. Bon Temps Street in Marksville to LA 114 in Echo and on LA 29 from Dora Rd. to Dupuy Crossing in Avoyelles Parish. Drivers are advised to pay attention to advance warning signage, and be alert for crews and equipment in the work zone.
This portion of the project is anticipated to take place over the next approximately five (5) months, with these operations heavily dependent on weather conditions.

- LA 467 (Vernon Parish)
- LA 112 (Rapides Parish)
- LA 191 (Sabine Parish)
- LA 174 (Natchitoches Parish)
- LA 1 (Avoyelles & Rapides Parishes)
Future work will be taking place in Grant, Natchitoches, Rapides, Sabine, Vernon and Winn Parishes. DOTD will issue another update when the contractor (Nation Striping Company, LLC) moves from Avoyelles to the other parishes.
The overall purpose of the project is to replace pavement striping, which conveys important information to motorists, as well as enhance safety through the use of rumble strips. These strips are designed to alert drivers through sudden sound and vibration when they drift from their travel lane.
Permit/Detour section
During construction of this project, all roadways will remain open to all local and through traffic with no width restrictions for vehicles. Lane closures will be utilized during construction operations.
Safety reminder
DOTD appreciates your patience and reminds you to please drive with caution through the construction site and be on the lookout for work crews and their equipment. Remember to leave plenty of room between you and the vehicle in front of you.
Area residents should exercise caution when driving, walking, or biking near an active construction zone.
