EVANGELINE & ST. LANDRY PARISH, La. — The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) announces that construction is underway on a $9.1 million highway improvement project on LA 29 from LA 13 to LA 758 in Evangeline and St. Landry parishes.
The 5.6-mile project includes roadway improvements, pavement rehabilitation, asphalt resurfacing, roadway realignment, drainage improvements, rumble strips, new pavement markings, and other related work. These improvements will provide a smoother ride, improve roadway safety, extend the life of the highway, and enhance overall driving conditions for residents, commercial traffic, and the traveling public.
Travel Impacts To allow crews to safely remove and replace an existing cross drain, LA 29 is closed to through traffic through August 28, 2026, at a location approximately 0.5 miles west of LA 758.
A signed detour is in place using US 190, LA 13, and LA 758.
Following the cross drain replacement, the roadway will reopen to regular traffic. However, motorists should expect intermittent lane closures for the remainder of the project as construction continues. Oversized loads traveling through the work zone will be limited to a 12-foot maximum lane width, and temporary delays should be expected.
Construction is scheduled Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., weather permitting.
Emergency vehicles will have access through the area during construction but may experience delays. During the current full road closure, emergency responders will use alternate routes.
DOTD encourages motorists to plan ahead, allow additional travel time, obey all posted signs, and use extra caution when traveling through or around the work zone. The department appreciates the public's patience as these improvements are made to provide a safer, smoother, and more reliable highway for years to come.
Work is expected to be completed in May 2027.
