ST. MARTIN PARISH, LA — The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) announces that construction will begin Thursday, July 23, 2026, on a $2.25 million highway improvement project along LA 349 from LA 347 to LA 352 in Saint Martin Parish.
The project includes repairing damaged sections of the roadway, improving drainage, applying a scrub seal, and placing a new asphalt overlay to provide a smoother, safer driving surface and help extend the life of the roadway.
Construction is scheduled to take place Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., weather permitting.
Motorists should expect intermittent lane closures throughout construction, which may result in temporary delays. A planned full road closure will also be required during the project to install new drainage structures beneath the roadway. DOTD will issue a separate press release with details about the closure, and a signed detour route will be provided in advance.
Emergency vehicles will have access through the work zone during construction, except during the planned full road closure, which will be announced prior to implementation.
The project is expected to be completed in October 2026.
These improvements will enhance the overall condition of LA 349 by creating a smoother ride, improving drainage to help reduce water-related pavement damage, and extending the service life of the roadway. Once complete, motorists can expect a safer and more reliable route for daily travel.
DOTD appreciates the public's patience and cooperation during construction and reminds motorists to drive with caution, reduce speed in work zones, and remain alert for construction crews and equipment.
