VERMILION PARISH, La. – The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) has begun a $4,135,235 infrastructure improvement project to replace three aging bridges along LA 339 between LA 14 and the Lafayette Parish line.
The bridge preservation project will replace the existing timber trestle bridges with reinforced concrete box culverts, enhancing safety, improving drainage, and increasing the long-term reliability of the roadway.
Project Scope
Construction activities include:
- Removal of existing timber trestle bridges
- Installation of reinforced concrete box culverts
- Construction of drainage structures
- Soil cement operations
- Milling and replacement of asphalt pavement
- Related roadway improvements
Work Schedule
Construction is expected to occur Monday through Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., weather permitting.
Traffic Impacts
To safely complete the work, motorists should expect the following traffic changes:
- Bridge near Hidalgo Road: Closed to all traffic during bridge removal and replacement.
- Bridge near Broadview Drive: Closed to all traffic during bridge removal and replacement.
A signed detour will direct motorists via LA 14 and LA 338.
Please note: Emergency vehicles will not have access across the bridges near Hidalgo Road and Broadview Drive while closures are in place.
For the bridge near Bares/Durphy Road, a temporary bypass road will be constructed to maintain traffic throughout the project. Emergency vehicles will continue to have access in this area.
DOTD encourages motorists to allow additional travel time, follow posted detour routes, and drive with caution in and around active construction zones.
The project is anticipated to be completed by December 2026, weather and construction conditions permitting.
