UPDATE - ROAD CLOSURE: LA 478 at Union Pacific crossing, Natchitoches Parish
(UPDATE 7/15/2026): DOTD advises motorists that the below referenced closure on LA 478 in Natchitoches Parish has been extended through Thursday, July 16, 2026 at 5:00 p.m.

Original notification - 7/1/2026:
The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) advises motorists that on Wednesday, July 15, 2026, weather permitting, LA 478 at the Union Pacific railroad crossing near the intersection with LA 1 in Natchitoches Parish will be closed.
This road closure is anticipated to be in place from approximately 8:00 AM to 7:00 PM for one (1) day, and is necessary to allow for UP crews to conduct maintenance work on the crossing.
Permit/Detour section
Traffic will be detoured from the LA 478 crossing west onto Interstate 49 northbound, east onto LA 6 BUS/University Parkway west, then south onto LA 1.
Northbound motorists LA 1 will continue north and LA 6 (University Pkwy) to I-49 soutbound to LA 478 eastbound.

All construction activity is weather-dependent and may be rescheduled in the event of inclement weather. DOTD appreciates the motoring public’s patience and reminds drivers to please exercise caution when traveling through work zone areas and be on the lookout for work crews and their equipment.
