PROJECT UPDATE: LA 9 overlay project in Bienville & Claiborne Parishes

BIENVILLE/CLAIBORNE PARISHES – An important connector route through several rural parishes in north Louisiana continues receiving a significant upgrade.

The ongoing $11.3 million project to repair LA 9 from I-20 to LA 518 in Bienville and Claiborne Parishes is making progress, with the contractor having completed laying down the first layer of asphalt.

Previous completed work includes full-depth base repairs at specified locations to strengthen the roadway and extend its overall service life.

Upcoming work includes applying the final layer of asphalt to create the new, smooth driving surface, permanent roadway striping & signage, seeding/fertilizing, and related work.

Motorists should be on the lookout for intermittent lane closures as construction continues to progress. Please drive with caution through the work zone.

The overall project is anticipated to be complete in Summer 2026, with progress dependent on weather conditions and other factors that can impact construction timelines.

LA 9 provides access to communities such as Arcadia and Homer, and continues all the way to the Louisiana/Arkansas border. Investing in repairs for this route improves the safety and reliability for the travelers who utilize it on a daily basis.

Safety reminder:

DOTD appreciates your patience and reminds you to please drive with caution through the construction site and be on the lookout for work crews and their equipment. Remember to leave plenty of room between you and the vehicle in front of you.

Area residents should exercise caution when driving, walking, or biking near an active construction zone.
