New Orleans, La. – The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) announces the start of a $9.5 million roadway improvement project along I-610 in Orleans Parish, with construction activities scheduled to begin in late May 2026.

The project will include concrete patching, asphalt paving, and related roadway rehabilitation work along both eastbound and westbound I-610 from I-10 near the 17th Street Canal to I-10 near Franklin Avenue. The work is designed to improve roadway conditions, enhance ride quality, and extend the service life of the interstate corridor.

Initial construction activities will begin with nighttime alternating lane closures beginning this week. During portions of the work, I-610 eastbound and westbound will be reduced to one lane overnight while crews perform concrete patching operations.

As part of the project, a full closure of I-610 in both directions, including ramps, is scheduled from 11:00 p.m. Friday, May 29, 2026 through 5:00 a.m. Monday, June 1, 2026. The closure is necessary to allow crews to safely and efficiently perform concrete patching and asphalt paving operations across the corridor.

During the full closure, motorists will be directed to utilize I-10 eastbound and westbound as the primary alternate route.

Additional construction activities and lane closures are expected throughout the project as work progresses. All work is weather permitting.

Motorists should expect delays and are encouraged to plan additional travel time while construction is underway. Drivers are also reminded to use caution in work zones and remain alert for crews and equipment.

DOTD will provide additional updates regarding lane closures, traffic impacts, and construction schedules as more information becomes available.
