New Orleans, La. – The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) announces that the US 90 Chef Menteur Pass Bridge in New Orleans has reopened to traffic as of 5 p.m. on May 21, 2026, following the completion of major structural repairs.
The bridge was closed in late February after structural issues were identified during a routine bridge inspection. DOTD crews repaired structural steel members of the bridge, requiring specialized access and scaffolding above the water to complete the repairs safely.
“The successful reopening of this bridge highlights the dedication and hard work of our bridge maintenance team," stated DOTD Engineer Administrator Scott Boyle. “We thank the public and neighboring communities for their patience during the closure while our crews completed essential repairs.”
DOTD continues to evaluate long-term solutions for the bridge, including future rehabilitation and replacement options.
Motorists are encouraged to continue driving with caution through the area as crews finalize remaining project items.
