Louisiana Businesses Step Up to Support Cleaner Highways Through Sponsor A Highway Program

BATON ROUGE, La. — Louisiana’s highways do more than move traffic. They welcome visitors, connect communities, support commerce, and shape the first impression people have of the state. Now, through the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development’s (DOTD) Sponsor A Highway program, local businesses have a visible way to help keep our roads clean and give back to their communities while promoting their companies.

DOTD, in partnership with Adopt A Highway Maintenance Corporation (AHMC), is recognizing Keefe’s Air Conditioning, Heating, Electrical, Generator & Plumbing as the first state sponsor to join the Sponsor A Highway program. Keefe’s participation marks an important step in expanding business-supported litter removal in one of Louisiana’s most visible and heavily traveled regions. As a locally rooted company serving the Greater New Orleans area, Keefe’s is helping demonstrate how private businesses can support public spaces in a way residents, visitors, and daily commuters can see.

“Keeping Louisiana’s highways clean is a shared responsibility, and partnerships like this allow us to extend our impact beyond what state resources can accomplish alone,” said DOTD Secretary Glenn Ledet. “We appreciate Keefe’s for stepping up as New Orleans’ first Sponsor A Highway participant and helping us create cleaner, safer, and more welcoming roadways for the people who live, work, and travel across our state.”

Through the program, businesses sponsor professional litter cleanup along selected highway corridors. In recognition of that support, sponsors receive roadside signage identifying their contribution to cleaner Louisiana roadways. The program gives companies a simple, tangible way to support community pride while helping address a persistent statewide challenge.

“Louisiana’s highways are more than roads that connect our communities. They are the front porch of our state, shaping the first impression we make on residents, visitors, and businesses alike,” said Lieutenant Governor Billy Nungesser in a letter encouraging Louisiana business leaders to take part in the program. The lieutenant governor’s office manages the Keep Louisiana Beautiful office, and he has described Sponsor A Highway as an opportunity for companies to support cleaner, safer, and more welcoming roadways while making a visible investment in Louisiana.

The program comes at a meaningful time for the state. In 2025 alone, DOTD spent approximately $15.4 million removing 96,000 cubic yards of litter from state roadways, enough to fill approximately 6,000 large dump trucks. By inviting businesses to participate, DOTD is creating a public-private pathway that allows state resources to be utilized more efficiently while strengthening civic involvement. Sponsor A Highway is scheduled to be implemented in several key Louisiana areas, including Baton Rouge, Lafayette, Shreveport, and St. Tammany Parish.

For Keefe’s, the sponsorship is also a public-facing commitment to the region it serves. The company provides air conditioning, heating, electrical, generator, and plumbing services, and can be found online at https://www.keefes.com/.

AHMC supports highway sponsorship programs across more than 25 states and has contributed to the removal of more than 25 million pounds of litter nationwide. In Louisiana, AHMC works alongside DOTD to help businesses participate in a program that combines roadside cleanup, public recognition, and community stewardship.
