Lake Charles – The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) announces that the $11.2 million project to improve LA 14 in Calcasieu Parish from Power Center Parkway to US 90 continues to move forward, with more than 70 percent of the project complete.

Overlay of the entire 3.3-mile stretch of LA 14 with asphalt is anticipated to begin this week, weather permitting. The overlay will begin near the US 90 intersection and progress southward as work is completed.

The contractor, Progressive Construction, is nearing completion on concrete patching, asphalt patching between Power Center Parkway and East Prien Lake Road, and expansion joint rehab between I-210 and US 90.

Work that has already been completed includes concrete milling, cleaning and resealing pavement joints, and subsurface drainage repairs between I-210 and US 90. Progressive Construction has also completed the asphalt overlay between the railroad crossing and 10th Street.

Once complete, the roadway improvements will increase the lifespan of the road, improve drainage, and improve ride quality for the traveling public. The asphalt will increase friction and drainage resulting in a safer roadway for the user.

The project is anticipated to wrap up by the summer of 2026, weather permitting.
