The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development has announced that the United States Army Corps of Engineers will perform significant repairs to the Calcasieu Lock, beginning Monday, May 18, 2026 and continuing through Saturday, October 31, 2026. Calcasieu Lock will operate business as usual on nights and weekends.

Due to the revised operating schedule at Calcasieu Lock, DOTD will implement the following temporary schedule change at the Black Bayou Pontoon Bridge on LA 384 (Big Lake Road) to coincide with this work:

1. OPEN to Vehicle

2. Tuesdays from 7:00am until 7:00pm
3. Wednesdays from 7:00am until 7:00pm
4. Thursdays from 7:00am until 7:00pm
5. Fridays from 7:00am until 12:00pm (approximately)

2. CLOSED to Vehicle

1. Fridays from 12:00pm (approximately) until marine traffic queues are cleared

3. NORMAL OPERATIONS (opens to marine on signal)

1. Nights and Weekends

Be advised that the approximate times on Mondays and Fridays may vary based on personnel availability and the marine traffic queue.

DOTD will also implement the following temporary schedule change at the Grand Lake Pontoon Bridge on LA 384 until further notice:

1. OPEN to Vehicle

1. Mondays – Thursdays from 7:00 pm until 9:00 pm

2. The bridge will be in NORMAL OPERATIONS (opens to marine on signal) at all other times

Motorists should expect lengthy delays at both bridges on nights and weekends due to the increased volume of marine traffic. DOTD will coordinate with USACE throughout the repairs to make changes to the operational requirements, if necessary.

DOTD appreciates your patience and reminds you to please drive with caution through construction sites and be on the lookout for work crews and their equipment.
