The Louisiana Department of Transportation (DOTD) is conducting a public meeting for the Peters Road
Bridge & Extension-Phase 3 Supplemental Environmental Assessment (SEA) in Plaquemines and Jefferson
Parishes, LA. The purpose of this public meeting is to provide information about the project and solicit
comments from the public and other interested parties.
Phase 3 of the project includes the construction of a bridge over the Gulf Intracoastal Waterway and an
interchange connecting the Peters Road extension to Engineers Road. Environmental reviews for the
overall project were previously completed and approved by the lead federal agency, the Federal Highway
Administration (FHWA). A Finding of No Significant Impact (FONSI) was issued in 2004, with supplemental
approval issued in 2009 following minor design changes after Hurricane Katrina. Since that time,
construction of Phase 1 has been completed, the final design for Phase 2A has been completed, and Phase
3 is currently in preliminary design.
The SEA will address potential environmental impacts associated with changes to the bridge design
standards since the earlier approvals. Specifically, the nearby Belle Chasse Bridge was constructed with a
lower vertical clearance than originally proposed for the Peters Road Bridge. As a result, DOTD is evaluating
a revised bridge design with a reduced height, which necessitates this supplemental environmental
review.
All interested parties are invited and encouraged to attend. DOTD staff will be available during the meeting
to answer questions. There will be no formal presentation. Should you require special assistance due to a
