ST. MARTIN PARISH, LA - The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) announces that construction will begin May 5, 2026, on a $10.31 million highway preservation project along LA 353, extending from Cypress Island Extension to LA 31 in St. Martin Parish. This project is completely funded through the Louisiana Transportation Infrastructure Fund (LTIF).
The scope of work includes milling, in-place base rehabilitation, asphalt concrete overlay, drainage improvements, and related infrastructure enhancements aimed at preserving and extending the life of the roadway.
Construction activities are expected to occur Monday through Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., weather permitting.
Intermittent lane closures will be necessary throughout the duration of the project, and motorists should anticipate delays.
Emergency vehicles will be allowed access through the work zone at all times.
The roadway will remain open to regular traffic; however, there will be an 11-foot lane width restriction for oversized loads traveling through the construction area.
The project is anticipated to be completed in Spring 2027.
DOTD appreciates the public’s patience and cooperation and urges all drivers to use caution when traveling through the construction zone, remaining alert for crews and equipment.
