BATON ROUGE, La. – The CURRENT Authority Board will hold its first official public meeting on Thursday, May 7, 2026, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. in the Governor’s Press Room on the fourth floor of the Louisiana State Capitol. The meeting will be livestreamed here, providing the public with an opportunity to observe proceedings in real time. A copy of the meeting’s agenda can be found at this link.
Created by the Louisiana Legislature through Act 418 of the 2025 Regular Session, CURRENT (Coordinated Upland Resources, Restoration, and Economic Network team) was established to guide water resource and infrastructure planning across Louisiana’s non-coastal regions.
The Legislature charged the CURRENT Authority Board with developing a comprehensive master plan, along with annual plans, to address flood control, water resource management, navigation, recreation, and related infrastructure initiatives in upland areas of the state. These areas fall outside the jurisdiction of the Coastal Protection and Restoration Authority (CPRA).
CURRENT’s mission is to develop a comprehensive and integrated master plan for non-coastal areas that balances economic development with environmental conservation. The board is also responsible for evaluating, prioritizing, and ranking infrastructure projects, as well as conducting public hearings to gather input on proposed plans.
The board will serve as a key liaison between local levee districts, ports, and navigation districts, providing engineering and economic expertise to support regional initiatives.
Members of the public are encouraged to attend the meeting in person or view the livestream.
