DOTD Announces Next Round of Alternating Lane and Ramp Closures for $43 Million Resurfacing Project on I-49

LAFAYETTE, ST. LANDRY PARISH, LA - Motorists are advised of the next round of alternating lane and ramp closures on Interstate 49 as part of a $43 million resurfacing project.

These closures are necessary to complete patching and saw cutting operations and will take place during overnight and weekend hours to minimize traffic disruptions.

Below is the schedule for the next two weeks.

Northbound I-49 – Patching Operations
Alternating lane closures will occur on the I-49 northbound mainline starting at the I-10/I-49 interchange during the following dates and times:

  • Monday, April 20: 8:00 p.m. – 7:00 a.m.
  • Tuesday, April 21: 8:00 p.m. – 7:00 a.m.
  • Wednesday, April 22: 9:00 p.m. – 7:00 a.m.
  • Thursday, April 23 8:00 p.m. – 7:00 a.m.
  • Saturday, April 25: 10:00 p.m. – 11:00 a.m.
  • Sunday, April 26: 7:00 p.m. – 7:00 a.m.
  • Monday, April 27: 8:00 p.m. – 7:00 a.m.
  • Tuesday, April 28: 8:00 p.m. – 7:00 a.m.
  • Wednesday, April 29: 9:00 p.m. – 7:00 a.m.
  • Thursday, April 30: 8:00 p.m. – 7:00 a.m.
  • Friday, May 1 – 10:00 p.m. – 8:00 a.m.
  • Saturday, May 2: 10:00 p.m. – 11:00 a.m.
  • Sunday, May 3: 7:00 p.m. – 7:00 a.m.
  • Monday, May 4: 8:00 p.m. – 7:00 a.m.

Northbound I-49 – Saw Cutting Operations
Alternating lane closures will also be in place for saw cutting operations on the I-49 northbound mainline starting at the I-49/I-10 interchange during the following dates and times:

  • Monday, April 20: 8:00 p.m. – 7:00 a.m.
  • Tuesday, April 21: 8:00 p.m. – 7:00 a.m.
  • Wednesday, April 22: 8:00 p.m. – 7:00 a.m.
  • Thursday, April 23: 8:00 p.m. – 7:00 a.m.
  • Friday, April 24 at 8:00 p.m. – Sunday, April 26 at 6:00 a.m.


Northbound I-49 – Ramp Closures
Ramp closures for Exit 1B (I-49 North to I-10 West for Lake Charles) and Exit 103B (I-10 West to I-49 North/U.S. 167 for Opelousas) will also be in place for saw cutting operations, removal and replacement on the I-49 northbound mainline during the following dates and times:

  • Monday, April 27: 8:00 p.m. – 7:00 a.m.
  • Tuesday, April 28: 8:00 p.m. – 7:00 a.m.
  • Wednesday, April 29: 9:00 p.m. – 7:00 a.m.
  • Thursday, April 30: 8:00 p.m. – 7:00 a.m.
  • Friday, May 1: 10:00 p.m. – 8:00 a.m.
  • Saturday, May 2: 10:00 p.m. – 11:00 a.m.




All work is weather permitting and subject to change.

Motorists should expect delays, exercise caution in work zones, and consider alternate routes when possible. Crews will work to complete operations as efficiently and safely as possible.

For the safety of workers and drivers, please reduce speed and remain alert when traveling through construction areas.
