BATON ROUGE, LA – The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) is encouraging first responders and partner agencies across the state to participate in the upcoming National Day of Traffic Incident Management (TIM) Responder Training on April 9, 2026. The initiative is part of a nationwide effort led by the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) to improve roadway safety and reduce the risks associated with traffic incidents.

TIM training focuses on helping emergency responders—including law enforcement, fire departments, EMS, towing and recovery, and transportation personnel—work together more effectively at crash scenes. The goal is to clear incidents quickly and safely while protecting both responders and the traveling public. Nationwide, nearly 850,000 responders have completed TIM training, with a national goal of reaching one million trained responders. Louisiana has already made significant progress with nearly 24,000 responders trained across the state.

“TIM training plays a critical role in keeping both motorists and responders safe,” said DOTD Secretary Glenn Ledet. “We encourage agencies across Louisiana to take part in this effort as we continue working together to improve safety on our roadways.”

The training is offered at no cost and is available in multiple formats, including in-person sessions, virtual instructor-led courses, and self-paced online modules.

DOTD is working with state and local partners to support a renewed national call-to-action to expand participation in the program and further strengthen Louisiana’s incident response capabilities.
