DOTD Announces Weekend Lane Closures on US90/Huey P. Long Bridge for Finger Joint Repairs (Jefferson Parish)

METAIRIE, La. — The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) advises motorists of upcoming weekend lane closures on the eastbound Huey P. Long Bridge to allow crews to perform finger joint repairs and related work.
Continuous double-lane closures will be in effect on the eastbound side of the bridge from 10:00 p.m. Friday, March 20, through 5:00 a.m. Monday, March 23. The Huey P. Long Bridge has three lanes in each direction, and one lane will remain open to traffic at all times during this work.
This closure will not impact westbound traffic on the Huey P. Long Bridge.
The work is part of an ongoing effort to repair steel expansion finger joints, which allow the bridge to safely expand and contract with changing conditions. These repairs are necessary to maintain a safe driving surface and extend the life of the structure.
Motorists should expect delays, especially during peak travel times, and are encouraged to plan alternate routes, allow extra travel time, and use caution when driving through the work zone.
Additional weekend closures will be required to complete this work and are anticipated to last through mid-April. All construction activities are weather permitting.
