PROJECT UPDATE: Jimmie Davis Bridge project reaches milestone with girder installation, Caddo & Bossier Parishes

CADDO & BOSSIER PARISHES – The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development announces that the ongoing Jimmie Davis Bridge (LA 511) replacement project over the Red River has reached another milestone with the installation of the first girders on the new structure.

Girders are the primary horizontal, load-bearing members that support the deck and transfer traffic loads to other components of the bridge. Piling installation is also nearing completion.

The $361 million project involves constructing a new, modernized 4-lane bridge directly adjacent to the existing 2-lane bridge, doubling vehicle capacity and vastly improving daily congestion and traffic flow.

The approaching roadway on each side of the bridge (LA 511) is also being widened and realigned in order to connect with the future structure. LA 511 is also undergoing a transformation in terms of access improvement and safety along the busy corridor.

This work involves the construction of a raised median and implementation of J-turns for access management.

Continued intermittent lane closures are necessary on both Arthur Ray Teague & Clyde Fant Parkways, as well as on LA 511 as work on the project progresses.

The entire project remains on track to wrap up in mid-late 2027, weather and other factors permitting.

Be sure to visit our Jimmie Davis Bridge project webpage to read much more about the project, and find additional resources such as construction layouts & detour maps.
