DOTD contractor to conduct interstate sweeping operations in Shreveport-Bossier area

The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development announces that area motorists will soon experience a cleaner ride through the Shreveport-Bossier City region following a routine sweeping operation on portions of the most heavily-traveled roadways.

Beginning Wednesday, March 18, 2026, nighttime sweeping will begin on LA 3132 and I-220, weather permitting. This sweeping cycle is anticipated to take approximately two nights to complete.

This cycle will involve sweeping the entirety of both LA 3132 (from I-20 to Flournoy Lucas Rd) and I-220 (from I-20 in Bossier City to I-20 in Shreveport).

Subsequent cycles, which will take place in April and June, will include the following areas:

  • I-20 from the concrete median west of Pines Road in Shreveport to the start of the current construction zone in Bossier City (both directions)
  • I-49 from I-20 to the LA 3132 overpass in Shreveport (both directions)
  • I-220 in its entirety
  • LA 3132 in its entirety

Ramps:

  • LA 3132 eastbound ramp to I-49 northbound & southbound
  • LA 3132 westbound to I-49 northbound & southbound
  • I-49 northbound to LA 3132 eastbound & westbound
  • I-49 southbound to LA 31232 eastbound & westbound
  • I-49 northbound to I-20 eastbound & westbound
  • I-20 eastbound & westbound to I-49 southbound

Benefits of roadway sweeping include environmental cleanliness and improvement to traffic safety by removing debris from the travel lanes and shoulders.

Sweeping activities are conducted at night to reduce the inconvenience to the traveling public as these are slow-moving operations. Motorists should be aware that they may encounter these crews, and are advised to be on the lookout for advanced warning lights and vehicles.

It’s important to note that sweeping operations take place primarily along bridges or areas with a raised curb, because the equipment needs to have a raised edge that acts as a barrier to ensure debris is gathered and taken into the sweeper rather than scattered across the roadway.

Safety reminder:

DOTD appreciates your patience and reminds you to please drive with caution through the construction site and be on the lookout for work crews and their equipment.

Area residents should exercise caution when driving, walking, or biking near an active construction zone.
