Baton Rouge, La. - The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD), with Adopt A Highway Maintenance Corporation (AHMC), is pleased to announce pioneering partners to the pilot program aimed at enhancing litter removal along state highways. DOTD’s ‘Sponsor A Highway’ program has been implemented in several key areas around the state: New Orleans, Baton Rouge, Lafayette, Shreveport, and St. Tammany Parish.
Keef’s Air Conditioning and Heating will be the first sponsor in New Orleans, and Lt. Governor Billy Nungesser is encouraging business across Louisiana to step up and be part of this effort. His belief is the ‘Sponsor A Highway’ program is a great way for companies to demonstrate their commitment to their communities while helping keep our highways clean and welcoming.
“Louisiana’s highways are often the first impression visitors have of our state, and keeping them clean is essential to showcasing the natural beauty and hospitality we’re known for,” said Lt. Governor Nungesser. “Litter is an issue we all share responsibility in solving. By partnering with businesses through the ‘Sponsor A Highway’ program, we’re creating a sustainable way to keep our roadsides clean while giving companies the chance to show their pride in Louisiana. We all need to support these businesses who pledge to help care for our roadways.”
The Sponsor a Highway program allows Louisiana companies and organizations, both large and small, to fund professional litter removal services along some of the state’s busiest highways. In recognition of their support, sponsors receive acknowledgement through signage placed along the shoulder of the highway. Litter removal services are performed a minimum of six times per year.
“The Sponsor a Highway program is an innovative effort to keep Louisiana beautiful,” DOTD Sec. Glenn Ledet said. “DOTD spends a lot of resources on litter removal, and this new program will allow the department to focus more resources on infrastructure while the roadways receive the attention they deserve. We ask all people to refrain from littering and help us, and others, keep Louisiana beautiful.”
The program supports DOTD’s ongoing commitment to keep Louisiana’s roadways safe and clean. In calendar year 2025 alone, DOTD spent approximately $14.7 million on litter removal efforts. The Sponsor A Highway program offers a sustainable way to offset these costs while also involving the business community in preserving Louisiana’s highways.
AHMC has a proven track record, working in more than 25 states to support public agencies in roadway maintenance. Their work has contributed to the removal of more than 25 million pounds of litter nationwide.
More information about the program, including how businesses can participate, can be found on the program’s fact sheet here.
