ACADIA PARISH, La. — The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) announces that construction will begin Monday, March 16, 2026, on a $580,000 bridge replacement project on Airport Road in Acadia Parish.
The project is part of DOTD’s Off-System Bridge Preservation Program, an initiative aimed at improving locally owned bridges across Louisiana to ensure they remain safe, reliable, and capable of supporting everyday traffic and emergency response needs in rural communities.
Construction will involve the removal of the existing bridge structure and installation of new infrastructure designed to enhance long-term durability and drainage in the area. Work will include earthwork, drainage structures, Class II base course, reinforced concrete box culverts, and related construction activities.
To allow crews to safely complete the work, Airport Road will be closed approximately 0.9 miles west of Sidney Richard Road beginning March 16. The closure is expected to remain in place through May 2026.
Construction activities are scheduled to occur Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., weather permitting.
Traffic Impacts During the closure, a signed detour route will direct motorists along Sidney Richard Road, Bluefish Road, and Roy Road.
Motorists are encouraged to plan alternate travel routes and allow additional travel time when traveling in the area.
Emergency vehicles will not have access through the work zone during the closure.
The project is anticipated to be completed in summer 2026.
DOTD appreciates the public’s patience as this important infrastructure improvement is completed and encourages drivers to remain alert for construction signage and crews working in the area.
