NEW ORLEANS — The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) announces that the eastbound US 90 Business Harvey Tunnel reopened as scheduled on Friday, March 6, 2026, following the completion of final construction activities as part of the $54 million US 90: Harvey Tunnel Rehabilitation Project.

The eastbound tunnel had been closed since late summer 2025 while crews completed final upgrades to the facility.

Work on the westbound Harvey Tunnel is continuing as part of the final phase of the project. The westbound tunnel remains closed to traffic and is expected to reopen March 31, 2026.

The $54 million rehabilitation project provides major upgrades designed to ensure the Harvey Tunnel continues to serve as a dependable transportation corridor for the Westbank community for years to come. Along with aesthetic enhancements, the renovated tunnel includes new roadway approaches, improved driving surfaces, updated LED lighting systems, and a modern fire and smoke detection system.

Additional upgrades include sealant work designed to help prevent floodwaters from entering the roadway and improvements to the tunnel’s pump systems to improve drainage capabilities.

The Harvey Tunnel first opened to traffic in 1957 and this project represents the first full rehabilitation of the facility since it was originally constructed.

The Harvey Tunnel Rehabilitation Project is part of approximately $321 million DOTD has invested in Jefferson Parish infrastructure over the past five years.
