DOTD Celebrates Completion of Pecue Lane/I-10 Interchange Project - East Baton Rouge Parish

BATON ROUGE, La. – The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) and local leaders today cut the ribbon on the new Pecue Lane interchange at I-10, marking the completion of a major infrastructure project designed to improve safety, reduce congestion, and enhance connectivity in south Baton Rouge.
Originally approved by voters in 2005 as part of the Green Light Plan, now known as MOVEBR, the project evolved from a 1.3-mile, two-lane roadway widening into a comprehensive corridor and interchange project along one of the region’s busiest transportation routes.
The completed project includes:
· A new diverging diamond interchange at I-10
· Widening Pecue Lane from two lanes to four and six lanes
· Construction of new multi-lane bridges over I-10 and Ward Creek
· New on-and- off ramps connecting Pecue Lane to I-10
· Reconstruction of the Kansas City Southern railroad crossing
· Construction of the Reiger Road extension connecting Industriplex to Pecue Lane
The diverging diamond interchange, just the second in the state, was selected to reduce traffic conflict points, improve safety, and eliminate interstate through-lane conflicts while minimizing environmental and right-of-way impacts.
About 44,000 vehicles travel Pecue Lane each day. The improvements are expected to reduce congestion on Highland Road and Siegen Lane while providing direct interstate access to Industriplex and Woman’s Hospital.
“This ribbon cutting represents years of planning and partnership focused on improving mobility in one of the fastest-growing areas of the parish,” said Glenn Ledet, DOTD secretary. “By investing in smart infrastructure solutions like this diverging diamond interchange, we are strengthening Louisiana’s transportation network for decades to come.”
“The opening of the I-10 ramps at Pecue Lane marks the completion of a significant infrastructure project in our area to address heavy traffic flow in that vicinity. We encourage residents to use caution as traffic patterns adjust and to remain attentive to signage and signals while the new interchange becomes fully operational,” said Dustin Yates, mayor of St. George.
"This project represents a major investment in one of the fastest-growing areas of our parish. The completion of the Pecue Lane interchange will improve daily commutes, support economic development and enhance safety for the thousands of drivers who travel this corridor every day,” said Senator Franklin Foil.
The $131.5 million project began in phases in 2017 and was completed in early 2026 through a partnership between DOTD and the City of Baton Rouge/Parish of East Baton Rouge.
I-10 is a major east-west freight and commuter corridor serving Louisiana and the Gulf Coast region. The completion of the Pecue Lane interchange enhances regional connectivity and provides motorists with safer and more efficient travel options.
Motorists are encouraged to remain attentive as traffic patterns continue to adjust to the new interchange configuration.
