New Orleans – The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) announces that both the eastbound and westbound US 90 BUS Harvey Tunnel are currently closed to the public as crews complete final renovations as part of the $54 million US 90: Harvey Tunnel Rehabilitation Project.

The eastbound Harvey Tunnel, which has been closed since late last summer, is scheduled to reopen to the public on Friday, March 6, 2026.

The westbound Harvey Tunnel, which reopened to the public in mid-August 2025 with the majority of work completed, will undergo final renovations and is expected to remain closed through Tuesday, March 31, 2026.

The $54 million rehabilitation project provides major upgrades that establish the tunnel as a dependable corridor for the Westbank community for years ahead. Along with aesthetic enhancements, the renovated tunnel features new roadway approaches, improved driving surfaces, updated LED lighting systems, and a cutting-edge fire and smoke detection system.

Upgrades also include sealant work to help prevent floodwaters from entering the roadway and new pump designs to drain water from inside the tunnel.

This latest project is the first full rehabilitation of the tunnel since it opened in 1957, when it was built over four years for $5 million.

The Harvey Tunnel Rehabilitation Project is part of the $321 million that DOTD has invested in Jefferson Parish infrastructure over the past five years.
