New Orleans, La. – The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) is providing an update on the unplanned closure of the Senator Ted Hickey Bridge (Seabrook Bridge).
DOTD crews have identified a failed span lock motor as the cause of the issue. As a result, the bridge will remain closed to vehicular traffic while repairs are made. During this time, the bridge spans will be raised to allow marine traffic to pass.
Repairs will require rebuilding the affected motor. The bridge is expected to reopen to vehicular traffic in approximately one week, pending completion of repairs and final testing.
Motorists are advised to continue using alternate routes and to monitor 511 Louisiana for updates as additional information becomes available.
DOTD appreciates the public’s patience while crews work to safely restore bridge operations. Updated information will be provided as soon as it is available.
