DOTD announces upcoming roadway improvement project on US 61 (Airline Highway) in Jefferson Parish

Jefferson Parish, La. – The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) announces that construction will begin Monday, February 9, 2026, on a $4.16 million roadway improvement project along US 61 (Airline Highway) from David Drive to Causeway Boulevard in Jefferson Parish.
The project will begin with daytime operations focused on curb ramp construction, sidewalks, and combination curb and gutter work. As the project progresses, nighttime operations will begin for asphalt patching followed by milling and asphalt overlay. At certain stages of construction, both daytime and nighttime operations may occur simultaneously.
The project is estimated to be complete in June 2026, weather permitting.

Travel Impacts: Motorists should expect lane closures throughout the project. Permitted lane closures include: Single lane closures: 9:00 a.m. – 2:30 p.m., Monday through Friday Single lane closures: 7:00 p.m. – 6:00 a.m., Sunday through Thursday nights Double lane closures: 8:00 p.m. – 6:00 a.m., Sunday through Thursday nights Weekend single lane closures: 7:00 p.m. Friday – 6:00 a.m. Monday Weekend double lane closures: 8:00 p.m. – 9:00 a.m., Friday and Saturday nights Weekend work for concrete pours may occur and will be announced in advance.
Drivers should expect delays during work hours and are encouraged to allow extra travel time. Emergency vehicles will have access through the work zone but may experience delays.
