DOTD urges caution to motorists in northern area of Louisiana

Baton Rouge, LA - The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) is continuing to urge motorists in northern areas of the state to exercise caution while on the roads. While many roads have reopened and traffic is flowing once again, travelers should be extremely careful since ice may remain on certain spots of the roadways. Motorists should also be alert and be on the lookout for any crews working on or near the roads. Any remaining closed roads are indeed closed until officially reopened by DOTD, and drivers should never drive around barricades. Crews continue to work diligently around the clock to make any remaining closed roads safe for travel once again.
Travelers are urged to follow these safety precautions:
- Drive slowly and cautiously.
- Avoid distracted driving.
- Allow extra travel time.
- Do not use cruise control.
- Reduce speed in low visibility.
- Maintain a safe following distance.
- Always wear a seatbelt.
- Watch for DOTD crews and emergency responders.
- Never drive around barricades on closed roadways.
