DOTD reminds motorists to obey all traffic laws and practice safe driving during winter weather conditions

The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development is reminding all motorists to obey all traffic laws and practice safe driving during winter weather conditions where overpasses and bridges are prone to freezing. Motorists should not purposefully stop their vehicle on roadways and should not be sight-seeing in impacted areas.

There are ongoing de-icing operations active in the impacted areas. Stopped vehicles or extra vehicles on the roads can cause disruption and delay.

If a vehicle is stopped because of a crash, motorists are advised to move the vehicle to the shoulder, if possible.

Motorists are reminded to stay off roadways during freezing conditions unless travel is absolutely necessary. Some bridges and overpasses may become unsafe for travel before a closure notice is issued, so drivers should take responsibility to drive accordingly.

DOTD personnel are continuing to respond and take precautionary measures as weather conditions change. Crews continue to scout bridges and overpasses, and field crews are continually pre-treating roadways as necessary.
