DOTD provides update on I-20 traffic, urges motorists to remain off roadways in north Louisiana
Monday, January 26, 2026 at 9:27:39 AM
Baton Rouge, LA - The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) is advising the public to avoid I-20 westbound in Bienville, Lincoln, and Ouachita parishes due to stalled/stopped 18-wheelers causing traffic congestion. Crews are actively working to remove any stopped vehicles in order to get traffic flowing once again. This is an active situation, so DOTD will provide updates as necessary.

DOTD crews have also been working 24 hours a day to keep roadways clear, and to remove ice/snow in order to reopen any closed roads as quickly as possible. The northern and central sections of Louisiana were the hardest hit with wintry weather this past weekend, so DOTD is urging the public to avoid traveling at this time if possible.

Motorists should adhere to the following driving safety tips if driving is essential:

  • Drive slowly and carefully.
  • Avoid driving while distracted.
  • Always allow for extra driving time.
  • Avoid using cruise control.
  • Reduce speeds when visibility is low.
  • Make sure there is plenty of room between vehicles.
  • Always wear your seatbelt.
  • Be on the lookout for DOTD crews and other emergency responders and their equipment.
  • Remember that it’s unlawful and unsafe to drive around a road closed barricade for any reason.
