UPDATE - DOTD announces temporary closure of Butte La Rose rest area amidst winter weather

UPDATE: The truckers side of the Butte La Rose Rest Area has reopened as of 8 a.m. on Monday, January 26, 2026.
ST. MARTIN PARISH, La. – Effective immediately, due to the threat of hazardous cold weather conditions as a result of Winter Storm Fern, DOTD announces that the Butte La Rose rest area on Interstate 10 will be temporarily closed until further notice.
During the closure maintenance personnel for the rest area will not be present, nor will restrooms remain open to the traveling public.
Motorists are encouraged to keep this temporary closure in mind while traveling.
DOTD apologizes for any inconvenience and encourages motorists to check the status of road conditions prior to beginning commutes by utilizing the following resources for the latest information regarding road conditions:
- 511 Traveler Information: Travelers can also find information regarding road closures by visiting the 511 Traveler Information website at http://www.511la.org/ or by dialing 511 from their telephone and saying the route or region about which they are seeking information. Out-of-state travelers can access the system by calling 1-888-ROAD-511 (1-888-762-3511).
