I-20 major rehabilitation project in Bossier Parish marks another milestone with opening of lanes/ramps BOSSIER CITY – The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development announces a notable milestone for the ongoing $128 million I-20 major rehabilitation project in Bossier City, with the opening of additional lanes and ramps.
For the first time since construction began over two years ago, motorists are able to take advantage of both lanes of travel on I-20 westbound through much of the construction zone. This is particularly meaningful, as this is the first time travelers are driving on new concrete along this stretch of I-20 since the interstate was built in the 1960s.
The eastbound travel lanes are anticipated to reopen in phases between Friday, December 19th and Saturday, December 20th, along with two of the three ramps that are currently closed. The eastbound off-ramp to Benton Road will remain closed at this time as final work items are conducted.
DOTD will issue another notification when the two westbound on-ramps from both Benton Road and Barksdale Blvd are officially reopened to traffic.
The overall project – a standout investment in the I-20 corridor in north Louisiana - included the full reconstruction of all of the travel lanes in both directions from just west of Benton Road to Industrial Drive, along with all of the ramps at five interchanges.
Motorists should be advised that short duration lane closures will be necessary after the first of the year to allow for final construction activities, such as signage installation, permanent striping, and other related work.

Special note:
At this time, the commercial motor vehicle (CMV) prohibition will remain in effect due to narrow lane widths at certain locations within the work zone. This is enforced under Louisiana Revised Statute 32:327 from Hamilton Road to Industrial Drive (both directions). CMV drivers must utilize the primary detour of I-220.
Safety reminder:
DOTD appreciates your patience and reminds you to please drive with caution through the construction site and be on the lookout for work crews and their equipment. Remember to leave plenty of room between you and the vehicle in front of you.
Area residents should exercise caution when driving, walking, or biking near an active construction zone.
