DOTD to install traffic cameras along three state routes in Rapides Parish

The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) announces a $2.1 million project to install new traffic cameras and related infrastructure along three state highways in Rapides Parish.

Work is scheduled to begin on Thursday, December 11, 2025 at 7:00 a.m. (weather permitting), with construction operations taking place in the median and along the right-of-way at the following locations:
  • US 167 near Brickyard St. (Zion Hill Baptist Church)
  • US 167 near Wildcat Blvd. (LCU)
  • US 167 at LA 28 Interchange. (Northeast Corner)
  • US 167 at LA 3144 (Edgewood Dr.)
  • US 167 at US 165 Interchange.*
  • US 71 at LA 1 Interchange.
  • I-49 at US 71 Interchange.
*Motorists are advised that a shoulder closure on US 167 NB at the US 165 Interchange will be necessary to facilitate construction at this site, though no major impacts to travel are anticipated with this project.

This project includes the installation of Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) such as fiber optic conduit and cable, Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) cameras, guardrail and embankment widening.

All work is anticipated to be completed by Fall 2026, with progress dependent on weather conditions and other factors that can impact construction timelines. The contractor for the project is Grady Crawford Construction Co., based out of Baton Rouge.

These traffic cameras, which are already available at numerous other locations around the state and in the central LA region, are monitored in real time by operators in the Traffic Management Center (TMC) and are accessible to the traveling public. This allows the TMC to post traffic and emergency messaging on the digital message boards, issue incident notifcations via the DOTD Traffic X (Twitter) accounts, and update www.511la.org and Louisiana 511 mobile app with the latest road conditions.

Louisiana 511 mobile app users are able to create a profile and receive customized alerts for traffic conditions on their routes, as well as view the live-stream traffic cameras to help plan their commutes.

Permit/Detour section:

There are no lane width restrictions associated with this project.

There are no lane closures associated with this project.

There are no detours associated with this project.

Safety Reminder:

All construction activity is weather-dependent and may be rescheduled in the event of inclement weather. DOTD appreciates the motoring public’s patience and reminds drivers to please exercise caution when traveling through work zone areas and be on the lookout for work crews and their equipment.
