PROJECT COMPLETE: US 171 @ Boone St. Roundabout, Vernon Parish
LEESVILLE – The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development announces the substantial completion of the project to build a roundabout at the intersection of US 171 and Boone Street on the south side of Leesville, Vernon Parish.
The $9.7 million project included constructing a double-lane roundabout, installing a number of drainage structures, a raised concrete median, new asphalt paving, fresh roadway striping & signage, and other related work.
This new configuration serves to significantly enhance the flow of traffic not only at the project intersection, but also along the heavily traveled US 171 corridor through Leesville.
Well-designed and constructed roundabouts have been proven to greatly reduce the risk of potentially severe crashes, by slowing down traffic while still maintaining a steady flow, and eliminating certain conflict points, such as right-angle turns.
