Construction is underway for State Project H.014086, US 61: St. James Parish. This project is 8.883 miles in St. James Parish. The type of work includes milling asphalt concrete, pavement patching, class II base course, asphalt concrete overlay, cable barrier system, concrete strip, striping, traffic signalization, and related work at a cost of $13,040,027.99
The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development reminds motorists of this active construction zone on US 61 within St. James Parish. Motorists have access to travel the roadway, but should anticipate delays due to alternating single lane closures on US-61 (Airline Hwy) both Northbound and Southbound between the St. John the Baptist Parish Line and I-10. These closures are scheduled to take place between 7:00 AM and 6:00 PM, Mondays thru Fridays. These lane closures will continue from Friday, January 23, and extend thru Friday, March 20, 2026.
These closures are required to saw cut and asphalt patch US 61.
Motorist should be advised of a temporary new traffic pattern at the intersection of US 61 and LA 641, beginning Monday, February 9th, 2026. US 61 Northbound and US 61 Southbound will have a left lane closure within 0.5 miles of LA 641. The left turn lanes on US 61 NB and US 61 SB will be shifted to the existing left lane to continue to allow left turns on LA 641. The temporary configuration will have one thru lane, one left turn lane, and one right turn lane for both US 61 NB and SB.
The temporary left turn lanes in both directions will be fully closed daily Mondays thru Fridays between 9:00AM – 3:00PM. Motorists will not be allowed to turn left onto LA 641 from US 61 NB or US 61 SB during these closure periods. These closures are scheduled to occur beginning Monday, February 9th, and extending thru Friday, February 27th, 2026.
LA 641 will remain unaffected by these closures.
These closures are required to rebuild the left turn lanes on US 61 at LA 641.
DOTD appreciates your patience and reminds you to please drive with caution through the construction site and be on the lookout for work crews and their equipment.
