Original notification - 9/26/2025:
SHREVEPORT – The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development announces a $9.6 million project that will provide a much improved travel experience for the thousands of motorists that utilize the busy US 171 (Hearne Avenue) corridor in Shreveport, Caddo Parish.
Work on the project is scheduled to begin on Friday, October 3, 2025.
The project includes full-depth patching to repair the base of the roadway at specified locations, milling to remove the old asphalt, and new asphalt paving on 4.6 miles of Hearne Ave. from LA 3132 to US 80 (Greenwood Rd). Related work includes drainage improvements, along with the installation of permanent signage and roadway striping.
Alternating lane closures will be necessary to allow construction activities to progress safely and efficiently, so motorists should be prepared for possible delays, particularly during peak travel times.
This section of Hearne Avenue services nearly 20,000 motorists per day on average, providing an important connection between major highways such as I-20, LA 3132 and points further north in Shreveport.
The entire project is anticipated to be complete in late Spring 2026, with progress dependent on weather conditions and other factors that can impact construction timelines.
Motorists are strongly urged to drive carefully through the work zone, keeping an eye out for crews and equipment, and to never drive while distracted or impaired.
Additional updates on the project will be issued via the MyDOTD notification system as construction progresses. Click here to sign up for those alerts.

DOTD appreciates your patience and reminds you to please drive with caution through the construction site and be on the lookout for work crews and their equipment. Remember to leave plenty of room between you and the vehicle in front of you.
Area residents should exercise caution when driving, walking, or biking near an active construction zone.
