DOTD celebrates completion of five rural bridge replacements in Winn Parish

WINN PARISH – Today, the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development Secretary Glenn Ledet, Jr., along with elected officials and other stakeholders, celebrated the official completion of five rural bridges located in Winn Parish.

Secretary Ledet, joined by State Rep. Jack McFarland (R-13) and several local officials, gathered to mark the occasion with a ribbon cutting ceremony at one of the bridges along LA 1232, northwest of the City of Winnfield.

Four of the new bridges are located along LA 1232 east of the community of Bethlehem, with one on LA 1231-1 in Winnfield.

“The replacement of these bridges by DOTD own in-house crews with funding allocated by Rep. McFarland underscores the importance of the collaboration between the Dept. and our elected officials,” said Sec. Ledet. “By embracing cooperation and teamwork, we were able to provide these modernized structures to the community on a highly accelerated timeline.”

House Bill 2 of the 2024 Regular Legislative Session appropriated up to $2.5 million from the Transportation Trust Fund to allow construction to move forward on these bridges, expediting the schedule by paving the way for DOTD’s crews to perform the work.

The reopening of these four rural bridges is a significant step toward improving infrastructure and connectivity for communities. These bridges represent more than just physical structures; they symbolize the investment in the future of rural areas,” said Rep. McFarland. “It demonstrates a commitment to enhancing mobility, boosting local economies, and ensuring that rural residents have equal access to vital services.”

Construction on the bridges by DOTD’s statewide crews began in late 2024 and wrapped up in Summer 2025. District forces in the Alexandria region then performed the asphalt paving to tie-in the roadway to the bridge, and traffic crew striped the locations.

Rural bridges remain vital links for local industries and the continued connectivity of area communities. Through strong partnerships with elected officials, DOTD was able to streamline the process and deliver these bridge replacements quickly and efficiently.
