New Orleans – The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) announces the full reopening of the Interstate 10 interchange at US 61 (Airline Highway)/Carrollton Avenue in Orleans Parish.
The Carrollton Avenue on-ramp and Airline Highway off-ramp at Exit 232 of westbound Interstate 10 were both closed in May when a garbage truck collision severely damaged the support structure of the Airline Highway off-ramp. The garbage truck could not be removed from the support structure until emergency efforts were made by Boh Bros. Construction Co. to structurally secure the ramp.
DOTD was able to classify the incident as an emergency, which allowed a contractor to begin work immediately. This emergency declaration streamlined the contracting process, saving the time that would usually be spent soliciting bids for a project like this under normal circumstances.
Repairs were expected to last until the end of August, but contractors finished early because of good weather and working seven days a week.
The Interstate 10 corridor at this location is traveled by over 150,000 vehicles daily, making it one of the most heavily utilized corridors in the greater New Orleans area.
