PROJECT UPDATE: Jefferson Highway (LA 73): US 61 to Essen Ln. - East Baton Rouge

BATON ROUGE, La. – The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) is providing an update on the ongoing improvements to LA 73 (Jefferson Highway) from U.S. 61 (Airline Highway) to Essen Lane in East Baton Rouge Parish.
Crews are currently working in the eastbound outside lanes of Jefferson Highway, between Pine Park and Floynell Drive. Ongoing construction includes the removal and replacement of the roadway pavement, installation of new concrete curbs, sidewalks, and driveways. As part of the project, the existing concrete roadway is being replaced with asphalt, and sidewalks are being widened from 4 feet to 6 feet to improve pedestrian access and safety.
Once work is completed in the current segment, crews will continue with similar construction along the remaining eastbound outside lanes toward Airline Highway. Following that phase, westbound outside lanes from Airline Highway to Drusilla Drive will undergo the same improvements.
Final phases of the project will include applying an asphalt wearing course over the entire project area, placing permanent striping and roadway markers, and completing remaining incidental work.
The project is expected to be completed by late 2026.
