BRIDGE REOPENING: Boudreaux Canal Bridge/LA 56 in Terrebonne to reopen today

New Orleans - The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) is providing updated information on DOTD-maintained bridges currently or recently closed in Terrebonne Parish.
Updated: 2:30 PM, Friday, July 18, 2025:
- REOPENING: Boudreaux Canal Bridge/LA 56 (Opened 1959): The reopening to vehicular traffic of this bridge has been moved up from the end of August to 4:00 PM today, Friday, July 18, based on significant progress by DOTD maintenance forces. Additionally, plans are underway for a new replacement bridge, estimated to cost $30 million, which is scheduled to go out to bid next summer.

- Bayou Dularge Bascule Bridge/LA 315 (Opened in 1977): The Bayou Dularge Bridge is now open to vehicular traffic during weekday rush hours only. Starting today, it will be accessible to motorists Monday through Friday from 6:30 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. in the morning and from 4:30 pm to 6 p.m. in the evening, while construction work is ongoing. Marine traffic will still be able to pass through the bridge during times when vehicles are not allowed. DOTD will keep the public informed about any updates regarding the work.
The following are DOTD-maintained bridges currently/recently closed in Terrebonne Parish:- Daigleville Bridge/LA 24 to LA 659 (Opened in 2006): The bridge is currently being repaired by C.E.C., Inc., with an estimated reopening in October this year. Crews are waiting for fabricated bridge cables, which are expected to arrive by early August. Recent work includes ceiling repairs, as well as repairs to brakes, barriers, and lights.
- Bayou Blue Pontoon Bridge/LA 316 and Romero St. (Opened in 1972): The bridge, damaged in a boat collision, is currently being repaired under a contract with Reliant Industrial Solutions, LLC. To date, Reliant has reconditioned the apron drive assembly, pivot arms, gate arms, limit switches, and the roof of the bridge house. The repairs are scheduled to be complete by the end of August.
DOTD closes bridges only when they are deemed unsafe for public use and works on solutions to address any issues. Some repairs can be more complex, such as those resulting from barge strikes, due to structural concerns. Many community bridges are over 50 years old and feature moving parts that require specialized maintenance and fabrication.
DOTD recognizes the importance of bridge access and the inconvenience that closures can cause; however, the safety of drivers remains the top priority, and all federal guidelines must be followed.
