Updated: 3 p.m., Wednesday, May 28, 2025:
- DOTD anticipates reopening the Carrollton Ave. on-ramp to I-10 westbound once the garbage truck has been safely removed, around June 13. The Airline Hwy. exit from I-10 westbound will remain closed for reconstruction work.
New Orleans – The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) provides an update on the emergency closure of the I-10 westbound Carrollton Ave. on-ramp and the I-10 westbound Airline Hwy. off-ramp in Orleans parish.
- DOTD was forced to close the Carrollton on-ramp and Airline Hwy. off-ramp for I-10 on the morning of May 19 due to a private company's trash truck colliding with support beams.
- The trash truck could not be removed because the damage to the highway structure left the support structure unstable. This damage also necessitated the closure of the overhead Airline Hwy. off-ramp.
- DOTD bridge inspectors immediately met with emergency contractor Boh Bros. of New Orleans, and a plan was designed and approved to allow Boh Bros. to bring in expansive support shoring from another part of the country to allow for the removal of the trash truck.
- Because of the lead time on special components necessary for the three shoring towers, DOTD has a tentative completion date of Friday, June 13, 2025.
- Due to necessary repairs on the support structure, the Airline Hwy./I-10 westbound on-ramp will remain closed.
- DOTD will immediately begin designing a repair project for the Airline Hwy. off-ramp once the trash truck is removed.
DOTD thanks the public for their patience during the closure, as the safety of the traveling public remains the top priority. More information will be released as it becomes available.
