BATON ROUGE, LA – The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) hosted the first Louisiana Connected and Automated Vehicle Innovation Day on April 30 at its Baton Rouge headquarters. The day-long event, co-led by Partners for Automated Vehicle Education (PAVE) and Stantec, featured remarks from DOTD Secretary Joe Donahue and other leaders, as well as hands-on technology exhibits, autonomous vehicles on display, and more.

“Our focus at DOTD is providing a safe and reliable transportation system for the people of Louisiana, and staying at the forefront of emerging vehicle technologies helps to ensure that we are keeping our economy moving and our communities connected,” said DOTD Sec. Joe Donahue. “CAV Innovation Day provides an opportunity to showcase the newest cutting-edge technologies available today, and for us to talk about how these technologies can enhance transportation safety and efficiency across our state.”

Autonomous vehicles have been in the spotlight in Louisiana in the past year as companies, including Waymo, have begun testing self-driving robotaxis on New Orleans streets. The state, one of 35 states that have enacted autonomous vehicle legislation, allows AVs to operate commercially on public roads.

“Louisiana Economic Development is committed to making Louisiana a leader in emerging vehicle technologies, which increase safety and efficiency on our roadways and spur our economy,” said Louisiana Economic Development Chief Innovation Officer Josh Fleig. “We’re excited to welcome these tech innovators to Louisiana and show them what a great place our state is to do business.”
