DOTD announces project to improve safety, traffic flow at I-49/Southern Loop, Caddo Parish

CADDO PARISH – The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development announces a $1.5 million project aimed at improving safety and relieving congestion at the I-49 southbound interchange with Southern Loop in south Caddo Parish.

Work on the project is scheduled to begin on Thursday, April 10, 2025 with a shoulder closure going in to place.

The project involves constructing a second southbound exit lane adjacent to the existing lane, increasing the vehicle capacity and helping to keep traffic from backing up onto the interstate, particularly during peak travel times.

The existing ramp will remain open during construction, though motorists should be aware of crews and equipment on site and drive with caution through the area.

The entire project is anticipated to be complete in Fall 2025, with progress dependent on weather conditions and other factors that can impact construction timelines.

Safety reminder:

DOTD appreciates your patience and reminds you to please drive with caution through the construction site and be on the lookout for work crews and their equipment. Remember to leave plenty of room between you and the vehicle in front of you.

Area residents should exercise caution when driving, walking, or biking near an active construction zone.
