UPDATE - REOPENED - LA 8: Forker Creek Bridge; Vernon Parish (UPDATE 5/14/2026): DOTD advises motorists that work is substantially complete on the project to replace the LA 8 bridge over Forker Creek in Vernon Parish, and the roadway has been reopened to traffic.

LA 8: Forker Creek Bridge Vernon Parish
The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) announces that, weather permitting, work will begin on the LA 8 Forker Creek bridge replacement project on Monday, February 17, 2025 and will continue for approximately ten (10) months.
This bridge replacement project is located on LA 8 between the two LA 111 intersections in Vernon Parish. This 0.334-mile-long project will receive clearing and grubbing, removal of existing bridge, grading, drainage structures, pavement patching, class II base course, temporary detour road and bridge, asphalt concrete pavement, precast concrete piles, concrete slab span bridges, and related work.
The project was awarded to Gilchrist Construction Company, LLC, in the amount of $6,282,263.55.
Permit/Detour section: The contractor will begin clearing and grubbing on Monday, February 17, 2025. The roadway will remain open to all local and through traffic with no restrictions. The roadway may be reduced to one lane during construction operations.
