Denham Springs, LAThe Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) announces an update on the LA 1026 widening (LA 1026 between I-12 and U.S. 190) and the U.S. 190 and LA 1026 roundabout projects. The two projects, now primarily constructed by KCR Contractors, are estimated to be significantly completed by fall 2025. Once finished, there will be a roundabout at U.S. 190 and LA 1026 (Juban Rd.), widened lanes, restriping, upgraded drainage, and improved access to adjoining residential neighborhoods.

"We are grateful to area residents and commuters for their patience," said DOTD District Administrator Dalton Williams. "We understand the frustration and are working diligently with all stakeholders to keep this project progressing.”

Work remaining on the project includes:
· Asphalt resurfacing over the center lanes on Juban Rd. and sections of U.S. 190 after demolition is complete.
· Roundabout construction at U.S. 190 and Juban Rd.
· Access circles for businesses and local residents along Juban Rd.
· Minimal concrete and drainage work.
· Full striping.

Two separate projects were initially awarded in 2018 and 2019 to two different contractors, but after significant delays and legal issues, the jobs were condensed into one under KCR. Substantial utility relocation issues delayed construction for over two years. Contractors could not commence until the relocation of energy transmission and distribution, sewer, water, fiber optic, cable, and gas lines were complete. The owners of each line were responsible for the relocation before road construction could begin.

“Completing these projects has been difficult for several reasons, including COVID, workforce and supply issues,” said Williams. “Certainly, this has caused frustration for all parties, but we are now closer to completion and providing residents with the upgrades necessary for their community.”

DOTD appreciates your patience and reminds you to drive cautiously through the construction site and be on the lookout for work crews and their equipment.
