The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) is happy to update the public on several key projects made possible by the recent allocation of $7.5 million in additional funding per district from the Louisiana Legislature.
First announced in August, this funding is appropriated for the 2024-2025 fiscal year and aims to enhance public infrastructure across the state.
DOTD is executing these projects through a combination of in-house maintenance crews and contracted services.
Statewide efforts are already underway, including in the Baton Rouge region. Crews have laid over 14.22 tons of asphalt, including the completion of a 1,000-ton paving project on LA 987-3 in West Baton Rouge Parish. An additional paving project on LA 420 in Pointe Coupee Parish began last week. Following this, crews will focus on overlay projects on LA 662 in Assumption Parish and LA 935 in Ascension Parish, before moving to overlay work on LA 408 (Hooper Rd.) and LA 409 (Liberty Rd.) in East Baton Rouge Parish. A segment of I-110 near the Fuqua Street exit (Exit 1F) in East Baton Rouge Parish was successfully patched in August.
The additional funding will also support grass cutting and litter pick-up contracts in East Baton Rouge Parish for one year. This initiative allows DOTD maintenance crews to dedicate more time to essential tasks such as paving, pothole repairs and overall roadway maintenance.
The funding also enables the district to upgrade traffic cameras at various intersections throughout the region, including:
- Ascension:
- US 61 @ Commerce Lane
- LA 939 @ Irma Blvd.
- LA 22 @ the U-Turn
- LA 44 @ New River St.
- LA 44 @ East Rome St.
- East Baton Rouge:
- LA 67 (Plank Rd.) @ LA 64
- LA 408 (Hooper Rd.) @ LA 3034 (Wax Rd.)
- Iberville:
- LA 75 @ Enterprise Blvd.
- LA 30 @ LA 3251
- Pointe Coupee
- LA 1 @ LA 10
- West Baton Rouge:
- LA 76 @ 14th St.
- LA 1 @ American Way
In addition to these upgrades, the district has procured temporary traffic signals that will be utilized across the area.
DOTD is actively working on more projects with the use of this funding, including district-wide striping, tree removal, ditch digging and drainage improvements.
We remain committed to keeping the public informed about the progress of these projects, ensuring that the $7.5 million in additional funding is effectively used for the betterment of our infrastructure. We will provide updates as these projects are completed.
