New Orleans - The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) is moving forward with roadway repairs made possible with an additional $67.5 million in funding statewide, which equates to $7.5 million per each of the department’s nine districts. DOTD first announced this funding in August, which was appropriated by the legislature for the 2024-2025 fiscal year. The roadway repairs are being completed via a combination of work done by DOTD in-house maintenance crews and outside contracts. These additional highway repair projects, which include the Northshore and Southshore of New Orleans, have begun, and more are scheduled to be bid on in the coming months.
The New Orleans area is focusing its attention on major road striping projects, including new striping on-ramps at the I-10/ I-610 interchange, the I-10 at Causeway Blvd. interchange, the Huey P. Long Bridge, S. Claiborne Ave., and the Westbank Expressway (US 90B). Extensive striping will occur in St. Bernard Parish, including work on LA 39, LA 300, LA 46, and LA 624.
The money will be used for other significant repairs around New Orleans in the coming months, including districtwide drainage improvements and guard rail repair/replacement on the I-10 Highrise Bridge in New Orleans East.
The Northshore uses the extra funding to help clean up dead trees along the significant I-12, I-55, and I-59. Projects are already underway to clean up in St. Tammany and Tangipahoa parishes. Upcoming tree trimming/removal projects will clean up I-12 in St. Tammany, Tangipahoa and Livingston parishes.
Other significant work on the Northshore involves installing new fences along major roadways: I-12 in Livingston Parish, I-12 and I-55 in Tangipahoa Parish, and I-12, I-59, I-10, and US 190 in St. Tammany. The Northshore will also use the funds for roundabout striping and highway repair on I-55, LA 441, and LA 1053. Interstate 59 will also have bridge rail repair in St. Tammany near the Mississippi state line.
Numerous routes across these regions and the northwest area are slated for upcoming improvements. DOTD will share the achievements as those repairs are complete.
